Flush Mount. Flush mount fixtures are directly installed inside the ceiling without any stem or chain. There is a little or negligible gap between the light fixture and the ceiling. They are considered the least conspicuous kind of ceiling fixture, often designed for getting unnoticed. Flush mount works well especially with low-ceiling spaces. The optimal conditions for a flush fixture are with a ceiling height of less than 8 feet. Examples of rooms offering limited space and having low ceilings are hallways, laundry rooms, closets, or bathrooms.
Semi-flush mount lightning means those lights that attach to the ceiling with a stem or extension creating a gap between the ceiling and the physical light. Usually, these extensions allow the fixture to hang easily less than a foot away from the ceiling. For higher ceilings, that are about eight to ten feet, semi-flush lights become a great option. An advantage of these fixtures is the lower height making it easier to change bulbs repeatedly. Semi-flush lighting also gives the illusion that you have a higher ceiling by throwing light up onto the ceiling as well as down around the room. This effect can convey a feeling of more space in a comparatively small room.
Since flush and semi-flush fixtures are already very close to the ceiling, you can even find a wide range of ceiling fans with such lights. Purchasing a ceiling fan with lights allows you to combine atmosphere control along with your main illumination.
Styles
Irrespective of whether you choose a flush, semi-flush wall lightning fixture or even a ceiling fan, the best feature about close-to-ceiling lights is the vast selection from available styles. Dome-like flush mounted lights are very common, but fixtures are available in an endless assortment of sizes and shapes. Rectangular or round, craftsman or modern, shaded in crystal or glass, there is a fixture to fit the aesthetic of every room. Semi-flush fixtures just like handmade pendant fixtures share the same extensive set of choices with the exception that multiple lights is now an accepted norm. While similar to their chandelier cousins and longer-legged pendant, you receive a petite-sized portion of the spectacle that a chandelier can incur, without repeatedly needing a cherry picker for hanging your new fixture.
